Walton-on-Thames

History

Walton-on-Thames is a prosperous up-market town on the River Thames in England within Elmbridge Borough of Surrey. There are mainly suburban streets and the centre of the town is historic being of Celtic origin.

The town derived its name from Anglo Saxon origin which means settlement of the Britons because ‘Wal’ means Britons. The town got the upon Thames tag since 13th century. The area holds proof of Roman influence and the impact of Henry VIII.

It is one of the biggest towns in the borough apart from Weybridge. The town is almost 15 miles from the Central London and is linked well by transports. The centre of the town is on the road junction of Bridge Street and the Church Street. Walton-on-Thames is an old riverside settlement that is nearby the river Thames. In the mid of the town and the river, there are buildings including Old Manor House dating between 1430 and 1460.

Rail

There is the Walton-on-Thames railway station where 4 trains keep running to London Waterloo. There are 2 stopping, 2 semi-stopping services and also semi-fast services that take around only 25 minutes to reach the station.

Road

There is regular bus service that is supported by the ‘Surrey County Council’. You can ride a bus to some of the nearby towns like Kingston-upon-Thames, Weybridge, Hersham, Shepperton and Molessey. There is a local taxi stand where about 12 taxis run between 6:30 am – 1:00am.

Walton-on-Thames has some of the best pubs like the Ashley Park which is located just off the Walton railway station. They focus on authentic English cooking style and they have a wide range of menus including brunch, main menu, menu for kids and a Roast on Sundays. Wednesday and Sundays are quiz nights here from 9pm.

The Anglers is an awesome choice. The main attraction is the riverside location with an outdoor sitting area. It’s a ‘gastropub’ serving the best sausages, burgers and wine in town. Here you get a wide spread menu of vegetarian dishes as well.
